Frequently Asked Questions
Is your worship more contemporary or more traditional?
We incorporate elements from both contemporary and traditional services. We consider
ourselves to have a modern form of worship, as we do incorporate traditional hymns in the
morning service and liturgies for Christian holidays. Our afternoon service is more contemporary
than the morning service. UPC is more about worshipping without restrictions and allowing the
Holy Spirit to come within our presence. We are most concerned about the presence of God.
Are you a suit/jacket type of church or more casual?
Our congregation tends to dress more casual, but regardless of what you wear, it's the heart that
matters.
I live in the dorms. Where can I catch a shuttle?
Our UP van goes around to the dorms before and after each service. Please see the Visitor Info page for more information.
Do I have to be a student to attend UPC?
Although we are located next to UCLA, everyone is welcome. Our congregation is
transgenerational and multicultural. Our congregation consists of students, staff, researchers,
faculty, families, working adults, international students, alumni, people from the local
community, and visitors.
I would like to get more involved in your community. What's the next step?
We are excited about your passion in seeking avenues to growing deeper roots in
our community. We encourage you to check out our membership class, cell groups and fellowships.
There are many service ministries, such as worship team, welcome ministry, care team, prayer
team, community outreach, discipleship and mentorship opportunities and overseas missions
trips available for both students and nonstudents. Everything begins with membership. For more
information, please contact us!
My student is going to go to UCLA but needs housing. Are there any availabilities in your community?
We suggest that UCLA students first go through the Office of Residential Life on campus and search the Community Housing listings. Any availabilities within the UPC community are listed in our classifieds section.
Do you offer a Children's Ministry for the kids?
Yes, we do! We have Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning. We also have our Friday evening program AWANA at 7pm. AWANA is geared towards K-6 grade children. They are both safe places for kids to build a strong foundation in Jesus Christ. For more information, please see the Children's Ministry page.
I heard a great sermon the other Sunday and it really touched me. Do you record your sermons?
We record most Sunday worship and sermons. You can find them under the Resources dropdown menu and listen to the recordings online. Recordings are usually posted by the following Wednesday.
What is Agape?
Agape Christian Fellowship is our undergraduate ministry at UCLA. In addition to our cell
groups, this is great place for students to gather to meet their fellow brothers and sisters
attending different worship services and cell groups. We desire to put our faith in action, as we
learn how to serve the homeless, witness to our friends and many other activities in building a
strong foundation in Christ. Please check out our Agape page.
